BOMB SCARE IN LAGOS

Photo: NANThere was confusion on Thursday on the island of Lagos, following the alarm by some members of the public that somebody had planted  explosives in one of the markets.
Traders around Tinubu Market and Tom Jones Street were alerted to some bags  suspected to contain explosives and planted close to the Central Mosque in the area.
The timely arrival of policemen from Area A police command and Ebutte Ero divisional police station doused the tension, as the area was immediately cordoned off and men of the Anti-Bomb unit were invited.
The news of the explosion instantly spread like wild fire and traders had to  swiftly  relocatefrom the scene of the discovery.
Atrader at Idumota, who simply identified herself as Mummy Tope, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, stated that the news of the explosive really affeected traders around Idumota market.
She said: “when I got to the market, I saw that some places were deserted and I  was told that some people had planted bomb in the area.  I believed when I saw policemen there.”
She added that “ the thing really affected business around that area as people were scared to move close to that area and the police also prevented people from passing through that area
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Ngozi  Braide, while speaking on the incident, commended the people for their vigilance but denied that it was explosives.
She noted that men of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal of the Nigeria Police  were quickly drafted to the scene, adding  that it was discovered that no bomb was planted in the area.
Braide stated that the adhesive fell from somebody and that people who did not know what it was meant for raised the alarm, leading to bomb scare among many people.

Woman sells her child for N150,000 in Enugu


imageA 22-year-old single mother, identified as Chinelo Ituma has been arrested by the police in Enugu State for allegedly trading off her new born baby.

DailyPost gathered that Chinelo, an indigene of Ebonyi State, residing at New Artisan Market Enugu sold the baby girl for the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira.

In a statement issued by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, he said the command has “commenced a full scale investigation into the alleged incident of human trafficking/selling of baby.

“The mother of the three months baby girl, a 22 year old woman identified as one Chinelo Ituma from Mgbo Town in Ebonyi State but residing at New Artisan Market Enugu, sold the child to one Maria Asomba from Ubahu Okija in Anambra State, who lives in Asaba”.

He added that “before then, one Esther Obi from Nise in Awka South, residing at woliwo in Onitsha had earlier collected the sum of four hundred and thirty thousand naira from one Nkechi Uzochukwu from Ezegbogu Aboh Mbaise as payment for the same baby”.

DailyPost learnt that Uzochukwu opted for buying a child after 10 years of childless marriage.
Amaraizu further stated that “the baby girl was eventually bought from Chinelo Ituma, who gave birth out of wedlock and who also claimed that she cannot handle the child’s upbringing.

“She eventually sold the baby girl to Maria, who resold the child to Nkechi Uzochukwu.
“All the suspects are now helping the police in their investigations as the baby girl has also been recovered by the operatives”.

U.S. says deploys surveillance aircraft over Nigeria to find girls

 
 (Reuters) - The United States has deployed manned surveillance aircraft over Nigeria and is sharing satellite imagery with the Nigerian government to find more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Islamist insurgents, a senior Obama administration official said on Monday.
"We have shared commercial satellite imagery with the Nigerians and are flying manned ... assets over Nigeria with the government's permission," the official said.
The United States has sent military, law-enforcement and development experts to Nigeria to help search for the missing girls who were kidnapped from a secondary school in Chibok in remote northeastern Nigeria on April 14.
Last week, U.S. Undersecretary for Africa Linda Thomas-Greenfield told Reuters in an interview that Nigeria had requested surveillance and intelligence from the United States. .
Both Nigeria and the United States have said they do not know the whereabouts of the girls, although Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has said he believes they are still in Nigeria.
