Women accountants mobilise against cancer scourge



The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (Swan) of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has mobilised its members against the health scourge of cancer which has lately turned into destroyer of mostly black women including those of Nigeria.

Censors Board Approves Half Of A Yellow Sun For Theatrical Release

yellow-sun-film The much anticipated big budget film, Half of a Yellow Sun (HOAYS). has finally being giving the go ahead order by The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB).

The film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's novel of the same title, directed by Biyi Bandele and starring Nigerian-born actor, Chinwetel Ejiofor, featured prominently on the list of 77 movies, which the NFVCB said its department of classification has approved for June 2014. 


 The NFVCB refused the film classification when the promoters applied for certification in April 2014 on the grounds that it contained scenes that may cause ethnic uproar.

 Half of a Yellow Sun, has being premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 . In addition, it won the best film prize award at the just concluded Zanzibar International Film Festival and it featured prominently at the NollywoodWeek Paris Film Festival.

Strange baby: born without arms or legs.


 (WorldStage Newsonline)-- The family of Ahmadu Didda, a peasant farmer from Dunomari in Sakwa village of Zaki Government Area of Bauchi State, and by his wife, Rukaiyya has delivered what can be described as a strange baby girl who has no arms and legs.
But, the father of the baby named Fatima said the family is grateful to God for giving them the child, describing her as a wonderful and beautiful baby.

He said “this is a gift from God, but it won’t be easy for us to raise Fatima because without legs and hands, she needs special care and attention. We feel sorry for her, but with the assistance from government and individual, I know that she will live a good life,” Ahmadu appealed.


Akin Bello wins Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa



 Akin Bello, a former chairman of Oyo State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has been named winner of the fifth edition of the prestigious Wole Soyinka prize for Literature in Africa.

The award was contested by three authors, Akin Bello, Othuke Ominibohs and Toyin Abiodun, they emerged the best three out of a total of 163 works submitted from across Africa.

He was crowned by Professor Wole Soyinka, assisted by the board of the Lumina Foundation, the organisers of the prize, Governor of River State, Rotimi Amaechi and Globacom’s Head of GloWorld, Titi Ebinisi, at the grand finale of the award at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday.

The winner, Akin Bello, was born in Lagos in 1950, and educated at Oyo, Ghana and the University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife, where he obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) (Pol. Science) in the 2nd Class (Upper)
