Fall in love wisely

Don’t just fall in love with someone’s smile, their voice, or the way their presence makes you feel in easy moments.  Those things are beautiful, but they are not the foundation of a good relationship.

Fall in love with their character.

Fall in love with their patience.

Fall in love with the way they show up when life is heavy and your heart is tired.

Fall in love with how they handle tough moments, when plans fail.

When misunderstandings happen and emotions run high, nothing feels simple.

Fall in love with how they respond when you’re not at your best.

When you’re overwhelmed.

When you’re quiet.

When you’re irritable, insecure, or unsure of yourself.

Do they try to understand you, or do they turn you into the problem?

Do they hold space for your feelings, or do they dismiss them?

Do they make you feel safe to be honest, or afraid to speak?

Watch how they treat you when you’re challenged, sad, or struggling.

Because real love doesn’t only celebrate your successes.

It sits with you in your brokenness.

It doesn’t rush your healing.

It doesn’t shame your pain.

Real love shows up, not only in laughter and romance, but in silence, in tears, in difficult conversations,  and in the moments when staying is harder than leaving.

A healthy relationship is not about never arguing. Two imperfect people will always disagree. That’s human.

What matters is how you argue.

Do they listen, or do they wait for their turn to speak?

Do they try to understand, or do they only try to win?

Do they raise their voice, insult you, and tear you down?

Or do they communicate with respect, even when they’re angry?

Choose a partner who can say,

“I hear you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Let’s fix this.”

Choose someone who doesn’t disappear every time things get uncomfortable.

Choose someone who doesn’t use silence as punishment or distance as a weapon.

Choose someone who stays.

Someone who believes love is something you build, not something you abandon.

Someone who chooses peace over ego.

Growth over pride.

Effort over escape.

Because in the end, love isn’t proven when everything is perfect.

It’s proven when life is chaotic.

When emotions are tangled.

When the road gets rough.

And the right person won’t let go of your hand in the storm.

They’ll hold it tighter.

They’ll walk with you.

They’ll remind you, in words and actions,

“I’m here.  We’ll get through this together.”
